Krista Mulcahy

Dr. Krista Mulcahy is the Director of Bands at Campbell High School; this will be her third year here. Prior to coming to Campbell, Dr. Mulcahy served as the Assistant Director of Bearcat Bands at the University of Cincinnati. Duties included working with the Spirit Bands, Concert Bands, and recruiting for the program. During her tenure, enrollment in the program increased yearly. She also started the Beginning Band program as a way to offer music to every student on the UC campus. The UC Marching Band was also a featured exhibition performer for the 2018 Bands of America Super Regionals in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Preceding her appointment at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Mulcahy was an 

Instructor of Music Education at the Burris Laboratory School at Ball State University where she taught elementary and secondary band courses, jazz band, pep band, music theory, and general music. In addition, Dr. Mulcahy supervised collegiate music education practicum students. During her time at Burris, the program tripled in size and won superior ratings at festivals.

Prior to her relocating to Ball State, Dr. Mulcahy was Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Studies at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina. For eight years, she taught concert bands, athletic bands, a variety of instrumental music education courses, and supervised student teachers. Numerous ensembles were added during her tenure and her student teachers had 100% job placement. She was also nominated by students and received the Montclair Who’s Who Among Collegiate Faculty.

 

Dr. Mulcahy began her career by teaching seven years in Cobb & DeKalb Counties, Georgia, where she taught middle and high school band, including concert band, jazz band, and marching band. All programs received acclaim on stage and field and grew consistently in numbers and talent. She was honored by receiving the Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers award.

 

A native of Dalton, Georgia, Dr. Mulcahy received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Jacksonville State University (AL). She received her Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University, studying conducting with Dr. Frank Wickes and music education with Drs. Jane Cassidy, Jim Byo, and Cornelia Yarbrough. Dr. Mulcahy also received her Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education degree from Boston University.

 

Dr. Mulcahy’s professional affiliations include GMEA, NAfME, MENC, and Women Band Directors International. Additionally, she is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Fraternity for Women in Music and Omicron Delta Kappa and an honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority. Dr. Mulcahy, her husband, John, Jr, and son, John III, reside in Smyrna, Georgia with their dachshund, Oscar.
